Thoughts of a Recipient
"To embark on infertility treatment is a difficult pathway. To discover well down the track that the only way to achieve a long held dream of having children was by relying on the selfless generosity of others giving their genetic material was almost too much to contemplate. Only after the idea was presented several times did we actually embrace it. Now, I only have to look at my son and marvel in wonder at how lucky I am. The gratitude, warmth and emotion I feel towards my donors (even though I don't know who they are) is indescribable, and I thank them from the bottom of my heart, along with the dedicated scientists and medical staff who have been able to give us the greatest gift ...a family."

The waiting list for donors is long and where possible we encourage our patients to source their own donor through a sister or friend or advertising. For women who can not find their own donor the QFG anonymous altruistic donor program is available.
Becoming a Donor
Donors are required to be under 35 years and have completed their own family. Pregnancy rates decline with age and it is advantageous to have a younger donor. They need to be in good health with no history of hereditary diseases and they must be prepared to undergo psychological counselling and IVF treatment. The altruistic donor’s costs are covered by the recipient including out of pocket expenses.
- Contact The QFG Donor Program on 3839 1483 or denise@qfg.com.au
- Extensive information is provided by telephone and a booklet detailing the donor process is posted. No attempt is made by staff to influence the donor’s decision. The prospective donor needs to complete and return the paperwork, which initiates contact.
- On confirmation of a donor proceeding one of our coordinators will arrange an interview, medical screening and psychological counselling.
- One of the QFG doctors will personally manage the oocyte donation and guide the donor through the process.
For more information on oocyte donation please call Denise, Lesla, Helen or Lyn on 3839 1483 or email denise@qfg.com.au.
