Even though infertility is commonly thought of as a female problem, it is actually caused by both male and female factors. In our experience 30% of cases are male related, 35% are female related and 35% are deemed unexplained infertility. In many cases both partners may be contributing to their infertility.

One of the most common causes of female infertility is an ovulation disorder. Other causes of female infertility include blocked fallopian tubes, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and endometriosis.  Another very likely cause of infertility may be related to age. Advancing female age means the quality of the woman’s eggs have declined to the point where the chance of natural conception has significantly declined.

The most common causes of male infertility include azoospermia (no sperm cells are produced) and oligospermia (few sperm cells are produced). Sometimes, sperm cells are malformed or they die before they can reach the egg. In rare cases, male infertility is caused by a genetic disease such as cystic fibrosis or a chromosomal abnormality.
